Nutrition Therapy and Education
What does nutrition education and therapy involve?
Nutrition education and therapy is based on the principles of intuitive and intentional eating. Each patient will be engaged in an individualized program to “see with new eyes” how letting go of self-defeating patterns of control over food, eating and physical movement can lead to freedom from weight fears, confidence in eating all kinds of foods, and joy in movement. My approach is highly experiential. It is centered on helping patients build trust in the ways the body was designed to function and respect for its goodness and strength. As trust becomes established, patterns of under or overeating or cycles involving both can be relinquished. Based on the Health at Every Size™ model, my focus is not on weight loss but rather on helping each person discover the balance in daily life that will optimize health, energy, and overall sense of well-being.
Our work together will engage patients in an individualized program of learning and skill-building to generate transformative rather than short-term behavior change. The process involves the use of assessments, knowledge acquisition, and personal discovery through active learning experiences that grow into beneficial practices for everyday life.
