Why is it so hard to feel good about ourselves around food and eating?

Our struggles with food and eating are more about how and why we eat than about what we eat. When we experience any form of out-of-control eating, it could be a signal that we are seeking relief from ungratifying food choices and eating patterns. Or, perhaps it might help us discover that we have a deeper hunger than food or eating could ever satisfy.

The good news is that each of us can learn to honor the gift of all food, eat with an awareness that brings pleasure and satisfaction, and appreciate and care for our bodies intelligently and competently regardless of our size, weight, or shape. When we begin to respect and care for ourselves in this way, our health and well-being will most certainly be protected and enhanced.
